Food.Fashion.Music - Avocado Toast

When you don’t have a lot of time to make breakfast or lunch, something quick that you can muster up in less than five minutes is always a good trick to have up your sleeve.

A favorite snack of mine is avocado toast. Check out this great website: Milk and Mode for the recipe: http://www.milkandmode.com/2011/07/avocado-toast.html

Also, here is a tip when you are making this: instead of slicing the avocados and laying them on a piece of bread (I usually use whole wheat toast instead of bagels), mash up the avocados like you are making guacamole, squeeze lemon juice on top and then spread that on a toasted slice of bread.

P.S. If you haven’t tried and eaten Tofutti yet, you should. It will change your life.

Back with another song! Here is an acoustic cover of ‘Green Eyes’ performed with the awesomely talented guys from La Vie - http://lavieband.com/

After being slightly disappointed by Coldplay’s new release last October, we decided against covering a more current song of theirs. Instead….. we went old-school.

This is our interpretation of Green Eyes.

Enjoy!

Food.Fashion.Music - Tip of the Day

Ladies, many of us forget how often we use our make-up brushes. So naturally, many of us also forget that we are supposed to WASH our brushes every once in a while!

How to: It’s simple. Use a standard bar of soap. Gently rock the brush back and forth under cold water. And like magic, off comes the gross build up of make-up that has been piling up on that thing since God knows when.

Tip: DO NOT slam the tip of the brush into the soap. You will just end up ruining the bristles.

As you can see in the photo, I cleaned ALL of mine today. AND I feel great!

XO, TK.

Food.Fashion.Music. — Gjelina & GTA

One of my all-time favorite spots in Los Angeles is a restaurant on Abbot Kinney called Gjelina. I spent most of my summer dining there and like L’Artusi in New York City, Gjelina is definitely one of my special spots in L.A.

Every little detail, from the food, down to the ambiance is simply exceptional. The place can definitely get crowded and over-packed, but even that seems excusable.

At the end of the day, the two things that distinguish one great restaurant from the next is the creativity of simple dishes and the quality of the food and the ingredients being used.

Luckily, Gjelina has both and then some.

The menu, which can be found on their website, is rather extensive. But I narrowed it down to a few of my favorite dishes:

1. Ricotta gnocchi with brown butter and truffle honey (on the brunch menu)
2. Tuscan Kale salad with bread crumbs, shaved radish, fennel and ricotta salata
3. Mushroom, goat cheese & truffle oil pizza   *you cannot go wrong with any of the thin-crust pizzas on this menu. The one with the squash blossoms is incredible too.

Now, if you are looking for a more laid back, casual dining experience, GTA (Gjelina Take Away), is right next door. After rehearsal last week, I popped in for a little bite.  While there, I ordered the three salad combination (which is pictured above), a delicious mushroom pizza, a homemade sticky bun and iced tea.

The winning dish of the day:  roasted butternut squash faro salad.

Check out Gjelina’s website here: http://www.gjelina.com/

Side note: get their right as the restaurant opens! this place gets packed quickly.
